Job summary

University of Richmond is seeking a Book Arts Program Director to collaborate with faculty and library colleagues to expand book arts research through design thinking, instruction, and outreach. The role oversees the Book Arts Studio, budget, staff, and programming, and supports the Book Arts Collection for campus and community learners.

Qualifications

  • MFA degree required with emphasis/certificate in book arts, bookbinding, and/or letterpress printing.
  • At least 5 years professional experience in printing, binding, and the book arts.
  • At least 3 years of instructional experience, preferably within an academic environment.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in management of a studio, bindery, print shop, fine arts, museum, or academic environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with emerging trends in bookmaking, letterpress, and book arts.

Responsibilities

  • Research and Instruction: Provide collaborative support for faculty to integrate book arts content and advise on project scope and requirements.
  • Create instructional resources, tutorials, and provide instruction and consultations to students, faculty, and community.
  • Assist with collection development for Book Arts resources and archive materials.
  • Coordinate services and programming via the Book Arts Studio.
  • Develop Book Arts Studio curriculum, workshops, and programs university-wide and in the community.
  • Ongoing professional development and participation in committees.
