Job summary

Osceola County is seeking a Bonds and Dockets Specialist to support law enforcement activities at the jail. The role handles inmate intake and bond releases, reviews court documents, and administers warrants and records in the jail management system.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, two years of related experience, and the ability to obtain FCIC/NCIC certification within 30 days. A Florida driver’s license is required, with preference for Criminal Justice experience.

Qualifications

  • Ability to learn Corrections administrative operations and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of office procedures, records maintenance, data analysis and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Process the intake and bond release of inmates.
  • Review arrest paperwork for accuracy and completeness.
  • Enter arrest information into the Inmate Management System; receive, execute and process warrants and RORs.
  • Review inmate criminal histories to obtain information using FCIC/NCIC.
  • Receive, verify and document cash bonds, surety bonds and purges at the Bond Desk; process bonds and notify local warrants section.
  • Coordinate with the judicial system and disseminate inmate information to the Courthouse and Clerk of Courts.
  • Perform administrative support in inmate records and bond processing.
  • Answer telephone inquiries from the public and route to appropriate person or division.
  • Maintain inmate records; update information in jail management system; communicate with other agencies.
  • Provide training and complete Daily Observation Reports for new employees.
  • Prepare and purge inactive files; manage storage of records.
  • Inventory equipment and supplies and initiate requisitions.

Please be advised that the Bonds and Dockets Specialist position is required to perform the essential functions of the position within the secure confines of the jail.

Please Note: This position is eligible for Night Shift Differential Pay.

NOTE TO INTERNAL APPLICANTS: INTERNAL CANDIDATES IN THE SAME CLASSIFICATION AND/OR PAYGRADE AS THE POSITION POSTED WILL NOT RECEIVE A PAY ADJUSTMENT IF SELECTED.

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform moderate to complex tasks which include information collection, review, entry, and verification in support of law enforcement activities. Employees in this classification interact with law enforcement personnel, arrestees, correctional staff, courts and the public to process the intake and release of inmates in a somewhat fast-paced environment.

  • Process the intake and bond release of inmates incarcerated at Osceola County Correction Department.
  • Reviews arrest paperwork and court documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Enters arrest information into the Inmate Management System; receive, execute and process warrants and ROR's.
  • Review inmate criminal histories to obtain information using FCIC/NCIC.
  • Receives, verifies and documents cash bonds, surety bonds and purges at the Bond Desk; processes incoming bonds on in and out of County warrants; documents, files and copies bonds for Courthouse and files; releases bond copies to appropriate Court; notifies local warrants section on bond information.
  • Works closely with the judicial system and disseminates inmate information to various parts of the criminal justice system to include the Courthouse and the Clerk of Courts.
  • Performs a wide variety of routine administrative support work in inmate records, general bond procedural processing, and interaction with Court and Corrections personnel.
  • Receives telephone inquiries and concerns about inmates from the public, ascertaining the nature of the call, and resolving personally, or directing it to the appropriate individual or division, or acting as liaison to the assigned supervisor.
  • Performs a wide variety of records maintenance tasks for incoming and outgoing inmates, e.g., files check for accuracy; enter and update inmate information in the automated jail management system; communicates with other agencies to provide and/or confirm information via teletype; processing inmate documents.
  • Provide training and complete Daily Observation Reports for new employees as needed or assigned.
  • Prepares and processes inactive files; purge files and pulls for storage.
  • Inventory equipment and supplies, and initiate requisitions for needed repair and/or additional supplies.
  • Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in customer service, administrative support functions, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Miscellaneous: Must pass a typing test at 30 wpm. Must be able to obtain FCIC/NCIC certification within thirty (30) days of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid FL Drivers License.

Preference: Criminal Justice experience.

  • Ability to learn a wide variety of Corrections administrative operations, policies and procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of modern office procedures and equipment; considerable knowledge of support functions; ability to organize, inventory, and maintain records.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under pressure and/or with frequent interruptions; skill in using good judgment, discretion and confidentiality in the performance of duties.
  • Ability to deal with people in a variety of changing and complex situations; ability to deal tactfully and cordially with a variety of people from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with all levels of management, employees, other departments, officials and the general public; skill in the principles and techniques of customer service skills.
  • Ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
  • Ability to read, update and maintain various records and files; knowledge of administrative support functions, e.g., records maintenance, data analysis, reports processing, documentation proofing.
  • Must be able to type 30 wpm.
  • Must be able to work all shifts and overtime as required.
