Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Fastening Engineer to design, validate, and standardize mechanical fasteners and bolted joints in vehicle systems at the Warren Tech Center. The role emphasizes robust, cost‑effective, manufacturable solutions aligned with GM fastening standards.

You will collaborate with Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, and external fastener suppliers to apply GM standards, conduct torque-tension testing, and contribute to continuous improvement of

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Fundamental understanding of mechanics of materials and basic machine design.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and CAD models.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with engineering calculations.

Responsibilities

• Support design and analysis of threaded and non‑threaded joints for vehicle components.
• Assist in fastener selection using catalogs and standards.
• Run basic joint calculations (clamp load, torque, thread engagement).
• Develop fastening specifications aligned with standards.
• Support design reviews for accessibility and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing and Plant teams to ensure reliable processes.
• Document data, torque specs, and change history.
• Assist with issue resolution for fastener failures and warranty concerns.
