Associated Hardwoods is seeking a reliable and skilled Boiler Technician/Night Watchman to join our team. This position is critical to the safe and efficient operation of our facility during the night shift. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining our boiler systems and ensuring smooth facility operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Boiler Operation: Monitor and operate high-pressure boilers to ensure proper function and efficient fuel combustion. The system burns scrap wood shavings, requiring careful oversight for continuous operation.
- System Maintenance: Address and clear system stoppages caused by dust accumulation, which may require climbing to high areas. Regularly inspect and maintain the boiler and related equipment to prevent malfunctions and ensure safety.
- Material Handling: Use a front-end loader to grind and feed waste material into the boiler, ensuring a consistent fuel supply.
- Area Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness of the boiler room and surrounding areas by regularly removing dust and debris to prevent hazards.
- Equipment Assistance: Assist with general equipment maintenance as necessary.
- Reliable Transportation: Ensure consistent and punctual attendance for night shifts.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in boiler operation or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience operating and maintaining high-pressure boilers, preferably in an industrial setting.
- Ability to work at heights safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to safety and efficiency.
- Ability to work independently overnight and respond effectively to operational issues.
Working Conditions:
- Night shift schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Exposure to loud noise, high temperatures, dust, and moving machinery.
- Work performed in an industrial environment with airborne wood dust and heat from boiler operations.
Essential Job Functions (Physical Requirements):
- Lifting and Carrying: Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted; occasional lifting of heavier materials with assistance.
- Standing and Walking: Stand and walk on concrete and uneven surfaces for extended periods.
- Climbing and Heights: Frequently climb ladders, stairs, and catwalks to access equipment or perform maintenance.
- Repetitive Motion: Use hands and arms for tool handling, control operation, and shoveling materials.
- Pushing and Pulling: Apply force to push, pull, or maneuver equipment and material handling systems.
- Operating Equipment: Safely operate heavy machinery (e.g., front-end loader) and perform manual labor related to fuel processing.
- Exposure to Elements: Work in hot, dusty, and noisy environments with potential exposure to airborne wood dust, high temperatures, and moving mechanical parts.
- Bending, Stooping, and Kneeling: Regularly bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch to inspect and maintain equipment or clear stoppages.
- Vision and Hearing: Maintain adequate vision and hearing to identify equipment malfunctions, read gauges, and respond to audible alarms.
