Job summary

22nd Century Technologies Inc. in Houston seeks an experienced Boiler Plant Operator to operate and monitor boilers at a VA medical facility, maintaining safe and efficient plant operations to provide steam and hot water for heating, sterilization, and building needs.

The role requires 24/7 facility coverage on 1st–3rd shifts and a minimum of 5 years of boiler experience, with a current boiler operations license.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of boiler plant operations experience.
• Experience in commercial, industrial, or hospital environments.
• Hands-on experience with water-tube and/or fire-tube boilers.
• Experience with natural gas and/or fuel-oil-fired boilers and burners.
• Knowledge of steam systems and boiler water chemistry.
• Ability to read technical manuals and safety regulations.
• Current boiler/plant operations license/certification.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, start, regulate, and safely secure water-tube and fire-tube boilers.
• Adjust combustion controls and maintain proper steam pressure and temperature.
• Operate boilers using natural gas and fuel oil and switch between fuels as required.
• Monitor boiler plant equipment, operating conditions, and computerized control systems.
• Test boiler water samples, perform chemical treatment, and maintain water chemistry records.
• Perform routine operational maintenance on valves, pumps, burners, feedwater systems, condensate systems, and safety devices.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on boiler plant equipment.
• Assist with pump installation, steam line and valve work, and related plant maintenance.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems associated with boilers, burners, and utility plant equipment.
• Monitor and respond to boiler and steam system alarms and equipment abnormalities.
• Perform troubleshooting and corrective actions during equipment failures, outages, and emergency situations.
• Maintain accurate daily operating logs documenting pressures, temperatures, fuel usage, and equipment status.
• Maintain boiler water chemistry, treatment, safety-device, and incident/trouble-call records.
• Follow applicable operating manuals, technical procedures, safety requirements, codes, and regulations.

We are seeking an experienced Boiler Plant Operator to operate and monitor multiple-fuel water-tube and fire-tube boilers and associated auxiliary equipment at a VA medical facility. The operator will be responsible for maintaining safe and efficient boiler plant operations, providing steam and high-temperature hot water for facility heating, sterilization, and other building needs.

Key Responsibilities

Operate, monitor, start, regulate, and safely secure water-tube and fire-tube boilers.

Adjust combustion controls and maintain proper steam pressure and temperature.

Operate boilers using natural gas and fuel oil and switch between fuels as required.

Monitor boiler plant equipment, operating conditions, and computerized control systems.

Test boiler water samples, perform chemical treatment, and maintain accurate water chemistry records.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of experience in boiler plant operations or a related trade.

Experience in a commercial, industrial, or hospital environment.

Hands-on experience operating and monitoring water-tube and/or fire-tube boilers.

Experience with natural gas and/or fuel-oil-fired boilers and burners.

Knowledge of steam systems, boiler water chemistry, and chemical treatment.

Experience troubleshooting and maintaining pumps, valves, burners, feedwater, condensate, and related boiler equipment.

Ability to perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.

Ability to monitor computerized/graphic plant control systems and respond to alarms.

Ability to read and understand technical manuals, operating procedures, regulations, and safety requirements.

Must possess the required current, full, and unrestricted license/certification applicable to boiler/plant operations.

100% onsite at a VA medical facility in Houston, TX.

Position requires 24/7 facility coverage and may be assigned to 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift.

Candidates must be comfortable working in a hospital/healthcare facility environment and following applicable safety and facility requirements.
