Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates the central boilers during an assigned shift, including igniting burners on either fuel source, inspecting and maintaining the chemical and feedwater systems, monitoring controls, and taking recordings.
- Responsible for meeting the steam demand for various loads and conditions.
- Reads and records in a permanent log temperatures, pressures, flow rates, chemical concentrations, plume discharge and other parameters.
- Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on the boilers and their auxiliary equipment such as pumps, aerators, expansion tank, valves, gauges.
- Monitors the energy management systems and manipulates settings to perform temporary corrective actions until the HVAC Shop can investigate the problem.
- Maintains a log to record all actions performed within the energy management system.
- Performs all work with adherence to safety procedures and ensures that completed work conforms to local building and safety codes.
- Works off ladders and scaffolding occasionally.
- Lifts at least 50 pounds of supplies, material, and equipment.
- Communicates effectively with other tradesmen, vendors and students/occupants.
- Receives trouble and emergency calls after normal work hours, investigates and attempts to resolve issues.
- Keeps supervisor informed of major problems by entering events in a permanent log book.
- Receives supplies and deliveries after normal work hours.
- Sweeps, vacuums, and cleans up office area and work floor after shift.
- Maintains tools and test equipment clean, operable, and properly stored.
- Performs other routine tasks as directed by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of high pressure boilers and possession of a Blue Seal for Steam.
- Minimum three years experience with high pressure boilers.
- Familiarity with basic energy management principles and operation.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Must possess or obtain a “C” operator license for underground storage tanks within 12 months.
Desired Qualifications
- Troubleshoot boilers and auxiliary equipment.
- NJ Journeyman electrical license.
Licenses and Certificates
- Blue Seal license for steam.
- Valid driver’s license.
Salary Range
$41.82 per hour
