Job summary

Savage is hiring in Safford, AZ for a boiler operator role within our industrial operations. You will start up, operate, monitor, and shut down a large watertube boiler and support systems in a heavy manufacturing environment.

The position requires mechanical aptitude, knowledge of LOTO, and strong safety practices. You will work 12-hour rotating shifts, with responsibilities including chemistry control, emissions controls, and routine inspections. Benefits and growth opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial environments such as mining, power generation, petrochemical, refining, or heavy manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Safe Work Permits and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
  • Mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot equipment and systems.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond effectively to operational challenges.
  • Willingness to develop additional technical knowledge related to emissions controls, boiler optimization, and plant systems.

Responsibilities

  • Safely start up, operate, monitor, and shut down an 82,000 lb/hr Superior watertube boiler.
  • Perform routine boiler operations including chemistry analysis and control, chemical adjustments, and blowdowns.
  • Operate emissions control systems, including SCR operation and handling ammonia bottles.
  • Conduct routine inspections and monitor parameters; troubleshoot and take corrective action as required.
  • Document daily operating activity and logs; maintain maintenance documentation.
  • Support general plant operations, housekeeping, and minor maintenance tasks.
  • Become proficient in steam generation and supporting systems.

  • Compensation: Starting Pay $26.00 to $28.00 per hour

  • Days/Hours: Rotating Shifts 12 HR 5AM to 5PM - Schedule 5/ON 4/OFF, 5/ON 5/OFF

What You’ll Be Doing


  • Safely start up, operate, monitor, and shut down an 82,000 lb/hr Superior watertube boiler.

  • Perform routine boiler operations including:


    • Boiler chemistry analysis and control (feedwater and boiler water testing)

    • Chemical adjustments and corrections

    • Continuous and intermittent blowdowns


  • Operate and monitor emissions control systems, including:


    • SCR system operation, switching and handling anhydrous ammonia bottles


  • Conduct routine inspections of boiler, auxiliaries, and associated systems to ensure safe and efficient operation, monitor operating parameters such as pressure, temperature, flow, and combustion performance, identify abnormal conditions, troubleshooting issues, and take corrective action as required

  • Communicate daily operating activities and system status with operation Leaders, maintain accurate and up-to-date operating logs, inspection records, and maintenance documentation

  • Initiate and document work orders for maintenance and repairs, follow Safe Work Permits, LOTO procedures, and site safety requirements at all times

  • Support general plant operations as needed, including assisting with inspections, housekeeping, and minor maintenance tasks, and maintaining a high standard of housekeeping in boiler and equipment areas

  • Become proficient in all aspects of the steam generation and supporting systems


Requirements To Be Successful In This Position


  • Experience working in an industrial environment such as mining, power generation, petrochemical, refining, or heavy manufacturing

  • Strong understanding of Safe Work Permits and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

  • Mechanically inclined with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and systems

  • Demonstrated commitment to always maintaining safe work practices

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond effectively to operational challenges

  • Willingness to develop additional technical knowledge related to emissions controls, boiler optimization, and plant systems


Preferred Qualifications


  • Prior experience operating industrial boilers, preferably watertube boiler

  • Strong working knowledge of boiler operations, including startup, shutdown, chemistry control, and blowdown practices preferred


Here are some of the physical requirements for this role:


  • Able and willing to work outside in all weather conditions

  • Ability to work at heights, swing a 10-lb sledgehammer, walk extensively on uneven terrain, lift up to 50 lbs, work and stand on uneven surfaces for prolonged periods of time

  • Ability to work outside for extended periods of time, in all weather conditions

  • Willingness and ability to work within an MSHA-regulated mining environment

  • Candidates are required to successfully complete a criminal background check, drug and alcohol screening

  • Ability to attend and pass all required training, including but not limited to: Site-specific safety training, Anhydrous Ammonia, InPit Driving Left hand Traffic Training, Skid Steer, Tellahandler, and any additional training required for work at the job site
