The North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking applicants for a Boiler Operator for our Facility Management division. The primary mission of Facility Management is to provide a safe and healthful work environment for employees and the public in a cost effective and energy efficient manner. This mission is accomplished by performing routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance to state facilities owned by and allocated to the Department of Administration.

The person in this position will maintain a continuous vigil while taking all steps necessary to maintain a steam output that will meet total demand. This position requires a thorough working knowledge of fuel oil and gas boilers. Duties include maintenance and repair of boilers and boiler room auxiliary equipment such as pumps, steam and water valves, air compressors, steam traps, and blowers. This position monitors load demands and starts or shuts down respective boilers to maintain the required steam output needed throughout the State Government Complex. Position provides constant monitoring of all operation readings/ controls and ensure all burner nozzles are kept clean during operations using Number 2 fuel oil. Position will ensure that all controls, feed water, draft, etc., are maintained for optimum plant operation. Individual must be able to react to changes in load demands as required, including during emergencies. The employee in this role must be able to operate, adjust, and identify problems with support equipment. This position will also monitor chemical feed system for water treatment and make necessary test and adjustments to ensure correct chemical levels.

Key Responsibilities:

MANAGEMENT PREFERENCE:

Preferred applicant will have previous experience as a Boiler Operator.

Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Other Requirements:

Valid NC Driver's License. Out of State Applicants must have valid Driver's License and acquire NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire.

The position requires standing for long periods of time and performing manual labor.
