State of Nevada is seeking a Safety Specialist, Boiler underfill in the Mechanical Compliance Section. The role involves inspecting boilers and pressure vessels in Reno or Las Vegas, providing technical guidance, and investigating safety incidents under supervision.

Qualified candidates will have a degree in engineering or related field with relevant boiler experience, and must obtain required state and NBIC certifications within set timelines. Travel is extensive and compliance is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering, occupational safety/health, construction management, or related field with 1 year of high‑pressure boiler/pressure vessel experience; OR an associate degree with 2 years of relevant experience; OR 3 years of related experience with high school diploma; OR equivalent combination of education/experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of boilers and pressure vessels to ensure compliance with state regulations and codes; provide technical guidance to engineers, contractors, architects, owners, and operators.
  • Investigate accidents and complaints; prepare detailed reports; recommend corrective actions and enforcement when needed.
  • Perform opening/closing conferences with management; supervise safety practices around operating boilers and vessels.
  • Support compliance aims by evaluating preventive maintenance and ensuring proper permits and notices are issued.
  • Travel as required to inspection sites (more than 50% of the time).
