University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg operates and maintains campus boiler and heating systems, supporting academic, residential, athletic, and administrative facilities. Responsibilities include monitoring boilers, testing water systems, performing minor mechanical work, and coordinating with maintenance staff.
This position performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of campus boiler, steam distribution, heating, and water treatment systems, as well as associated mechanical equipment. This position works alongside and takes direction from higher-level broiler technicians to maintain reliable utility services supporting the university’s academic, residential, athletic, and administrative facilities.

Education may be substituted for experience, or experience for education, based on the following: AA or 60 credit hours = 2 years of experience; BA/BS or 120 credit hours = 4 years of experience; MAIMS = 6 years of experience.
Knowledge: General knowledge of boiler operations, steam systems, heating systems, and water treatment processes.
Skills: Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform routine maintenance and repairs involving pumps, motors, valves, and piping systems. Have the skills to operate boilers and associated auxiliary equipment, water treatment and testing equipment, combustion analyzers and diagnostic instruments, and computerized maintenance management systems, hand tools, power tools, and specialized trade equipment, and operate university-owned vehicles.
Abilities: Ability to read gauges, meters, blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. Ability to safely work around high-pressure steam, hot water systems, chemicals, and rotating equipment. Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, contractors, and coworkers. Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation. Ability to follow and carry out written and verbal instructions. Ability to follow safety instructions, understand operating procedures, and must be able to communicate effectively with staff and supervision.
May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, and other hazardous materials.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
May work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, or mechanical lifts.
Must have the ability to respond to emergencies and work evenings and weekends to support critical campus needs.
