General Description

The Boiler Engineer is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of all aspects of the boiler on the premises, supporting the company’s standards and participating in a safe and productive working environment as outlined by the General Manager. The operator monitors, adjusts, maintains, and plans preventative maintenance for the boiler area.

Responsibilities

• Optimize boiler systems for performance and reliability.
• Ensure operations meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Train and mentor boiler operators.
• Communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Act as escalation point for system failures.
• Operate biomass fuel-burning boilers and auxiliary systems according to specifications.
• Operate valves, pumps, engines, and generators to control biomass production.
• Perform nightly water columns and blowdowns.
• Sharpen chipper knives and perform grate raking duties.
• Operate front-end loader for loading woodchips.
• Take hourly readings and inspect equipment.
• Record and report operational data and mechanical issues.
• Develop and update SOPs and preventative maintenance plans.
• Diagnose and repair technical and mechanical issues.
• Maintain detailed technical documentation.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Extensive knowledge of industrial boiler operations and maintenance.
• Ability to pass KLC boiler operator knowledge test.
• Preferred: Boiler Operator or Third-Class Stationary Steam Engineer license.
• Preferred: ASME or AWS certification.

Physical Requirements

• Lift up to 50 lbs.
• Bend, squat, kneel, reach as needed.
• Stand and sit for extended periods.
