Job summary

Andrews University seeks a Plant Service - Power Plant Operator to maintain and repair stationary steam boilers and boiler house auxiliaries. The role operates automatically fired boilers and supports chillers, cooling towers, and water systems in a university facility.

Weekend rotations and on-call emergency responsiveness are part of the duties. The candidate should have an associate degree or related experience and be willing to undergo training; a valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree from college technical school, or one to two years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Working knowledge of computer programs essential to energy-management / boiler room operations.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

• Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Responsibilities

• Lights gas or oil fed burners.
• Cleans and repairs boilers and auxiliary equipment.
• Observes meters on panel to verify operation of automatic combustionControl systems, feed water regulators, burners, chillers, pumps, and cooling towers.
• Turns valves and adjusts controls to set fuel feed, draft openings, water level, and steam pressure of boiler and related systems.
• Inspects and repairs boiler fittings and related equipment; replaces damaged tubes and plates; repairs high-pressure piping; paints surfaces; tests for leaks.
• Maintains water treatment systems and related pumps; tests and treats boiler feed water and cooling towers.
• Maintains tunnels, piping, condensate pumps, and steam pipes; logs meter readings and fuel usage.
