Qualifications

  • 3–5 years in CNC/robot operations and programming.
  • 10+ years preferred in CNC/robotic operations and programming.
  • 5–7 years minimum in visual inspection and welding of complex assemblies using TIG, MIG, Plasma, or GMAW.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor IGM robotic welding systems to produce rail vehicle bogie components and structures.
  • Load, position, and secure components; verify fit-up using drawings and weld symbols.
  • Select, validate, and execute robotic weld programs and monitor weld quality.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections; identify defects and issues and take corrective action.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Welding Engineering, and Maintenance to troubleshoot and improve processes.

Job description

Position Overview

The Weld Robot Operator is responsible for operating, programming, and troubleshooting robotic welding systems to ensure high-quality welds and efficient production. This role combines hands‑on operation with technical expertise in automated welding processes, quality standards, and continuous improvement. The operator will also perform visual inspections, monitor equipment performance, and support process development while maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor IGM robotic welding systems to safely produce rail vehicle bogie components and structural assemblies while meeting quality, safety, and production goals.
  • Load, position, and secure components in fixtures; verify part fit‑up, alignment, and orientation using manufacturing drawings, weld symbols, and work instructions.
  • Select, validate, and execute robotic weld programs, monitoring weld quality and ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and welding procedures.
  • Perform first‑piece, in‑process, and final inspections; identify weld defects, dimensional discrepancies, and process issues and take corrective action.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Welding Engineering, and Maintenance teams to troubleshoot equipment, support preventive maintenance, improve productivity, and maintain accurate production and traceability records.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; metallurgy or structural design/analysis training desirable.
  • 5–7 years in welding and/or welding quality within an AWS or DIN certified organization.
  • 3–5 years in CNC/robot operations and programming.
  • 10+ years preferred in CNC/robotic operations and programming.
  • 5–7 years minimum in visual inspection and welding of complex assemblies using various methods (TIG, MIG, Plasma, GMAW).
Certifications
  • AWS certification for welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and dissimilar metals in positions 1G–4G.
Technical Skills
  • Demonstrated ability in practical welding, automated equipment operations, and programming.
  • Visual inspection skills with knowledge of welding techniques, blueprint reading, and welding symbols.
  • Working knowledge of torch, MIG welding, plasma equipment, resistance welding (manual and robotic), and test equipment.
  • Ability to monitor weld techniques, provide documented feedback, and coach best practices.
  • Capable of supporting weld process development and improvement.
  • Ability to identify programming issues and troubleshoot machine faults.

  • Frequently walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; climb, crawl in tight spaces or balance; talk and hear.
  • Lift and move no more than 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

  • Occasional work in high or precarious places.
  • Occasional exposure to electrical shock and vibration.
  • Noise levels require the use of hearing protection.
