Job summary

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges, seeks an Associate Project Manager II to coordinate in-house crews, review plans for repair projects, and prepare work tickets and Coast Guard notices of upcoming work.

You will monitor progress, ensure material standards, and respond to emergencies, including evenings and weekends. AutoCAD and MS Office experience preferred, NY driver’s license recommended.

  • A baccalaureate degree in engineering or related field and one year of project management experience; or
  • A four-year high school diploma and five years of project management experience; or
  • A four-year high school diploma plus additional education/experience to reach five years overall.

Civil Service Title- Associate Project Manager II

* IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE OPEN-COMPETITIVE LIST.

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City.

The selected candidate will be responsible for assigning and coordinating the activities of in-house crews, making flag and corrective repairs to the city's elevated infrastructure; reviews engineering plans in preparation for repair jobs; prepares work tickets and lane closure applications and drafts U.S. Coast Guard notices of upcoming work; coordinates with skilled trades in the field to solve logistical problems and ensure safety standards are maintained; monitors daily progress of projects and confirms the use of materials per industry standards; prepares reports on projects including material and personnel costs; responds to emergencies and supervises work being performed during evenings, nights, and weekends; performs other related duties.

Preferred Skills Ability to perform inspections in all weather conditions which will include nights and weekends. A strong background in AutoCAD and MS office suite are required. Ability to drive city owned vehicle.

Preference will be given to those with a motor vehicle driver’s license valid in the State of New York with no restrictions. This license may be required for certain assignments. This license must be maintained for duration of appointment in this position.

ASSOCIATE PROJECT MANAGER - 22427

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration, and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, for engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects; or
  • 2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described in "1" above; or
  • 3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus any combination of college or university education and/or experience described in "1" above to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience.

One year of experience credit will be given for: (a) each 30 semester credits of college or university education leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration; (b) a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the disciplines described in "1" above; (c) a Juris Doctor degree, or (d) a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect or Registered Landscape Architect. Where experience which is primarily of a design nature is not acceptable towards meeting the qualification requirements.

In addition to meeting the qualification requirements for Assignment Level I, candidates must have at least one additional year of experience as described in "1" above in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least one year as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project.
