Job description

Introduction

Boating Education Assistant

The Boating Division is seeking Boating Education Assistants to engage with and educate boaters at our state boat launches. Responsibilities include educating boaters about safe boating practices, conducting Vessel Safety Checks and Aquatic Invasive Species inspections, and reporting on boat launch conditions. These positions are field-oriented with statewide duty stations, primarily near your residence, and are available from mid-May through mid-October. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work is required.

Selection Process

Applicants selected for an interview will be contacted by March/April 2025. Employment is contingent upon completing new-hire paperwork, a background check, and mandatory training in safety, diversity, discrimination, and harassment policies.

Position Purpose

As a limited duration employee, the Boating Education Assistant performs seasonal tasks related to boating safety and education.

Examples of Duties
  • Engaging with boaters about safe and clean boating practices.
  • Conducting vessel safety checks and promoting the Clean Boater Pledge.
  • Reporting boat launch conditions and performing light maintenance.
  • Assisting with outreach events and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Knowledge of boating preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Willingness to work weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work independently and comfortably at boat launches during summer.
Special Requirements

May include first aid certification, valid motor vehicle license, pesticide license, college training, EMT certification, or lifeguard certification, depending on the position.

Physical Requirements

Must possess adequate strength and stamina; lifeguard roles require demonstrating ARC waterfront swimming skills.
