Job summary

Capital Sand is seeking a Boat Pilot to join our traveling dredge crew on the Missouri River. The role focuses on safety of the crew, barge, tow and cargo, with a rotating 5‑day/12‑hour shift schedule aboard the vessel.

Responsibilities include navigating safely, maintaining equipment and logs, and reporting incidents to the main office, while adhering to USCG and company policies. Candidates must hold the required Coast Guard credentials and relevant dredging experience.

Qualifications

• Merchant Mariner Credential: Master of Towing Vessels on Western Rivers.
• TWIC card, Radar Observer Certificate and Radiotelephone Operator Permit required.
• Experience in dredging operations and Missouri River experience considered a plus.

Responsibilities

• Safely navigate the barge or tow while ensuring the crew performs daily functions.
• Operate in compliance with all company policies and USCG regulations on drugs, alcohol, pollution, and safety.
• Ensure vessel navigation equipment, VHF radios, machinery, and related gear are in good working order.
• Maintain an accurate and current log.
• Investigate accidents during shifts and report to the main office.

Pilots will be responsible for the overall safety of the crew, barge, tow, and cargo during their watch.Work Schedule: The position requires the ability to work a rotating schedule and live on vessel for extended periods of time. Primarily 5 days/week and 12-hour shifts. Some Saturdays as needed. **RESPONSIBILITIES*** Safely navigate the barge or tow while assuring the remainder of the crew performs their daily functions.* Operate in strict compliance with all company policies and USCG compliance regulations pertaining to drug, alcohol, pollution, and safety.* Ensure vessel navigation equipment, VHF Radios, machinery, rigging, and all related equipment are in operating order.* Maintenance of an accurate and current log.* Timely investigate all accidents occurring during their shift involving boat and crew and make reports to the main office.## Qualifications**REQUIREMENTS*** Must possess a valid U.S. Coast Guard issued Merchant Mariner Credential: Master of Towing Vessels Upon Western Rivers.* Must have a valid TWIC card, Radar Observer Certificate and Radiotelephone Operator Permit.* Experience in dredging operations and operating on the Missouri River is a plus.**This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position.
