Description

Cardinal Point Captains, Inc. (CPC) is seeking an experienced and qualified Vessel Captain to provide Seaborne Target Operations & Maintenance (O&M) support for the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons, Pacific Target and Marine Operations Division. The candidate shall possess expertise in marine operations and maintenance, with experience as a vessel captain and knowledge in HAZMAT handling, Quality Assurance, small vessel operations, and mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems in the marine environment. Skilled in navigation, vessel maneuvering, crew coordination, and ensuring compliance with maritime regulations and safety protocols. This is a Part-Time, On-Call position requiring daily reporting to the designated facility and may involve travel to remote locations, working in at-sea and/or dockside environments, and occasional overnight assignments.

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Train and qualify as a vessel operator for HSMST, QST A/B/I, FACT, and SDST Targets if required. Serve as captain on small boats and as mate on larger vessels such as the SL-120. Assist technicians with target component build-up, marine engine troubleshooting, system repairs, and equipment testing, under technical guidance.
2. Apply technical knowledge to perform tasks on marine engines and systems associated with seaborne target systems (QST A/B/I, FACT, HSMST, SDST).
3. Follow preventative maintenance programs using manuals and schematics for marine engines and equipment.

Skills

• Minimum USCG 100 Ton Credential required for vessels over 80 feet.
• Knowledge in testing mechanical systems according to technical manuals.
• Proficient in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment.
• Experienced in vessel navigation, maneuvering, and maritime safety protocols. Capable of emergency procedures and crew coordination.
• Ability to interpret maintenance manuals, technical data, and schematics for repairs.
• Compliant with OSHA and Navy safety guidelines, including use of safety gear.

Work Conditions

• Work may be outdoors onshore or afloat, in various weather conditions, including remote locations with overnight stays.
• Physical ability to lift 50-100 lbs with assistance.
• Part-time, on-call schedule with variable hours, including overtime and routine travel to NAWCWD Port Hueneme.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent; technical training or 2-4 years relevant experience.
• Experience in a military environment preferred but not required.
• Basic computer skills, ability to work in a team, U.S. citizenship, and ability to obtain a DoD Security Secret Clearance.
• Background checks including SSN, driver record, credit, and criminal history may be required.
