Job summary

The Syracuse VA Medical Center is seeking a Board Certified Emergency Department Physician to deliver urgent and emergent care to veterans presenting to the ED. The physician will report to the Emergency Department Section Chief and participate in continuous quality improvement and administrative duties as assigned.

Shifts may include 10-12 hour coverage, nights, weekends and holidays, with a rotating schedule and opportunities for CME and professional development within a supportive VA

Qualifications

• Must have United States citizenship or eligible/non-citizen per VA policy
• MD or DO degree from an approved school
• Current full and unrestricted medical license in the United States
• Completed residency in an ACGME/AOA accredited program leading to board eligibility
• Board certification required for faculty status if applicable
• Proficiency in spoken and written English

Responsibilities

• Provide ED evaluation and treatment per hospital policy for veterans
• Perform focused history and physical exams and initiate treatment
• Order labs and imaging as needed
• Diagnose and prescribe treatment; manage medications and procedures
• Document encounters in EDIS/CPRS and maintain records
• Discharge, refer to specialty care, or admit as appropriate; rotate 10–12 hour shifts including nights/weekends/holidays
• Supervise mid-level providers in ED and participate in administrative duties
• Contribute to continuity of care and professional conduct
