Job summary

Alabaster City Schools is seeking a Behavior Intervention Specialist (BCBA) to help school personnel assess and implement programs for students' behaviors. This role requires collaborating with educational staff, training, and managing behavioral interventions.

The ideal candidate will have a valid Alabama Teacher’s Certificate, certification in Applied Behavior Analysis, and a minimum of three years’ experience working with students who have various behavioral needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience in writing and implementing effective behavior plans.
  • Trained in prevention and management of aggressive behavior.

Job Title

Behavior Intervention Specialist (BCBA)

Job Goal

To assist school personnel in assessing and implementing an effective program to address behaviors of students.

Qualifications
  1. Valid Alabama Teacher’s Certificate with endorsement in special education.
  2. Completed certification in Applied Behavior Analysis and/or Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
  3. Minimum of 3 years experience working with students with autism, communication disorders, developmental delays, and/or behavioral concerns.
  4. Experience in writing and implementing effective behavior plans.
  5. Trained in prevention and management of aggressive behavior.
  6. Team leadership experience.
  7. Knowledge of effective strategies for academic, communication, and behavior intervention.
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Participates as a team member in the identification of and assessment of students’ social, behavioral, emotional, and academic problems.
  2. Works in collaboration with the Exceptional Education Supervisor, psychometrist, and other district administrators in identifying and prioritizing district behavioral needs, interventions, etc.
  3. Works in coordination with teachers, administrators, consultants, and other appropriate professionals in conducting a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and in developing a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).
  4. Provides staff training and support in behavior management strategies.
  5. Assists in the design, implementation, and follow-up of behavioral management programs for students to remediate behavioral and social problems.
  6. Models and coaches staff in behavior management strategies.
  7. Demonstrates and teaches effective communication skills.
  8. Performs and models de-escalation techniques when an individual is exhibiting escalated and/or aggressive behavior toward himself/herself or toward staff.
  9. Provides social skills training to students in such areas as anger management, social skills enhancement, conflict resolution, and appropriate peer interactions.
  10. Analyzes behavioral data and collaboratively writes Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) to address behaviors that need to be increased or decreased.
  11. Trains teachers in the documenting and analyzing behavioral data.
  12. Plans and confers with the classroom teacher concerning any behavioral, social, or personal problems affecting students.
  13. Assists with evaluation of students in the areas of autism, communication, social skills, sensory issues, etc.
  14. Consults with school and district personnel, and parents.
  15. Maintains frequent and substantive communication with staff.
  16. Complies with local, state, and federal regulations regarding special education records, reports, and services.
  17. Cooperates with all teacher regulations and responsibilities in the school.
  18. Complete certification in Managing Crisis Safely strategies and techniques and help train ACS staff yearly.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned by Exceptional Education Supervisor.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policies on evaluation of personnel.
