Job description

The Progress XChange is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in North Carolina. Our mission is to assist committed high school students in underserved communities in Charlotte, NC make sound decisions in preparation for their college careers. We aim to expand economic, social, and educational opportunities for every individual in order to narrow the divide.

The XChange" is seeking volunteer board members / leadership to serve on our non-profit Board of Directors. Board members have the opportunity to bring their expertise, experiences, skills, and creativity to the development and growth of our mission. As a Board Member, you will attend six to eight meetings per year and vote on the major decisions impacting the organization, including key partnerships and strategy. Together, we will shape the organization and strengthen our ability to serve those in need. This is a remote part-time role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Governance : Attend board meetings and participate actively in discussions and decisions regarding the organization's strategic direction and policies.
  • Financial Oversight : Review financial statements and budgets; ensure the organization’s fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
  • Fundraising : Participate in fundraising initiatives and contribute to the development of fundraising strategies; personally make a financial commitment to support the organization.
  • Advocacy : Act as an ambassador for the organization, promoting its mission and values in the community and to potential supporters.
  • Committee Involvement : Serve on at least one board committee (Finance, Governance, Fundraising, etc.) to contribute expertise and support focused initiatives.
  • Networking : Cultivate relationships within the community to expand the organization’s reach and develop partnerships that align with our mission.

Qualifications

  • Experience in non-profit management, fundraising, marketing, program development, event and strategic planning
  • Strategic thinker with skills in business development, communication, and marketing
  • A passion for and a strong understanding of the organization's mission
  • Strong financial literacy, with the ability to read and interpret financial reports and budgets.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Established network within the community or relevant professional circles that can facilitate fundraising and outreach efforts.
  • Excellent communication, collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Availability to contribute an average of 2-5 hours per month
  • Commitment to helping to build and strengthen a diverse and inclusive organization

Additional Considerations

  • Willingness to make a meaningful financial commitment to the organization, demonstrating personal investment in our mission.
  • Availability to attend special events, volunteer drives and committee meetings as needed.
