Job summary

Mountain View Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant to join the Blackfoot team. The role supports both clinical and business office functions in clinics of health care providers.

Responsibilities include taking histories, vitals, helping with exams, documenting records, and coordinating administrative tasks with the physician. A high school diploma and approved medical assisting training are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; post-secondary medical assisting program preferred (CAAHEP/ABHES) and/or 6–12 months clinical experience.
• BLS certification within two weeks of hire.
• Clinical skills may include EKGs, laboratory tests (waived CLIA), and medication administration under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Admin duties: Uses computer applications; Answers telephones; Greets patients; Updates and files patient medical records; Codes and fills out insurance forms; Schedules appointments; Arranges for hospital admissions and laboratory services; Handles correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping; Performs all administrative duties in a clinic or office.
• Clinical duties: Takes medical histories; Administers basic first aid; Explains treatment procedures; Prepares patients for examination; Takes vital signs; Assists the physician during exams; Collects and prepares laboratory specimens; Performs basic laboratory tests; Instructs patients about medication and diets; Prepares and administers medications under licensed supervision; Operates office medical equipment; Removes sutures and dressings; Participates in emergencies; Performs aseptic techniques.

JOB SUMMARY

Helps patients by providing clinical and business office assistance in the offices and clinics of health care providers, such as, physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and optometrists.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative Duties (may include, but not limited to):

• Prepares and administers medications non- invasive medication as directed by a physician and supervised by a licensed person.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification: High School diploma. Prefer graduation of a post-secondary medical assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and/or 6-12 month clinical experience. BLS certification within two weeks of hire.

Clinical skills: Clinical Skills may be specific to the clinical setting but may include EKGS, respiratory testing, lab tests classified as "waived" under CLIA, and administering medication only by unit, or single dosage, or by a dosage calculated and verified by a healthcare practitioner.

Equipment/Technology: Basic computer skills necessary

Language/Communication: English, Medical terminology, Grammar, Spelling & punctuation

Mathematical Skills: Basic

Mental Capabilities: Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow

Interpersonal: Effectively communicates with administration, managers, and staff. Exceptional customer service and telephone etiquette

Requires attention to detail and ability to assimilate large amounts of information from various sources. Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and can work effectively with a diversity of personalities.
