Job summary

Mortenson, a leading builder, offers a summer internship program for civil/construction undergrads from May to August 2027. You’ll work with project teams on real construction tasks, gain exposure to design, procurement, and field processes, and contribute to prefabrication and shop drawing activities.

Ideal candidates are pursuing relevant degrees, have completed coursework in construction management or engineering, and possess strong collaboration and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate, four-year degree in Construction Management, Construction, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related degree.
• Have previous related internship experience.
• Are currently enrolled as an undergraduate junior.
• Demonstrate strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with change orders, RFIs, and shop drawings.
• Support procurement, subcontractor agreements, and material handling.
• Aid in project sequencing and schedule maintenance.
• Participate in preconstruction and coordination meetings.
• Use design and manufacturing software to assist construction processes.

As an intern, you’ll get hands-on experience right away, working alongside project teams and partners to keep things moving. You’ll help solve real problems, stay organized, communicate across teams, and make an impact from day one while building the foundation for your career.

Responsibilities

• BLUvera, Mortenson’s vertically integrated self-perform manufacturing and prefabrication affiliate, utilizes advanced design, engineering, and 3D modeling to deliver and install prefabricated construction products on Mortenson projects. By utilizing DfMA principles (design for manufacturing and assembly), our BLUvera team leverages technology in the manufacture and fabrication of steel frame wall panels and data center components for our project sites. The BLUvera team continually enhances offerings in prefabricated scopes of work that drive value for Mortenson as a whole.
• Completing construction change orders
• Handling shop drawings, submittals, and the request for information (RFI) processes
• Assisting with purchase orders and subcontractor agreements
• Partnering in construction sequencing and schedule maintenance
• Collaborating with team in preconstruction and pre-installation meetings
• Attending subcontractor coordination meetings and assisting with correspondence
• Utilizing industry-leading technology and software to assist in manufacturing for construction processes.
• Handling material procurement

Preferred Qualifications

• Have a basic understanding of construction and generally accepted business practices
• Demonstrate strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills and show initiative and leadership
• Showcase a positive and professional attitude and solid customer service skills
• Are detail-oriented, organized, and can effectively handle multiple competing priorities

The hourly wage for college Interns starts at $18. Students may be paid higher wages based on their year in school.
