Job summary

Vulcan Materials Company is seeking a blasting operations professional to plan and design shots, direct drillers, and ensure safe, compliant blasting activities. You will audit drilling logs, coordinate with vendors and truck drivers, and maintain regulatory licenses.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of science related to geological aggregate formations and blasting agents.
• Plan and design shots to optimize production while complying with air overpressure and ground vibration standards and regulatory requirements.
• Adjust patterns (burden, spacing, angles, diameter, depths) for safe optimization.
• Direct drillers to ensure shots align with design specifications.
• Measure and audit drilling operations and logs using instruments such as laser profiler and bore track.
• Coordinate with vendors and truck drivers to load shots per design, ensuring blasting standards are followed.
• Comply with Federal and State safety regulations and inventory controls for blasting agents.
• Coordinate with plant management and blasting vendor to supply correct amount of blasting agents per shot design.
• Licensed or certified by applicable Federal or State regulatory entity.
• Communicate clearly with internal/external stakeholders to maximize impact.
• Collaborate with teams to achieve goals with strong teamwork and problem solving.
• Make informed decisions by evaluating information and risks to align with company goals.

Responsibilities

• Plan and design shots to optimize production while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.
• Direct Drillers to ensure shots are drilled according to design specifications.
• Measure and audit drilling operations and logs with laser profiler and bore track.
• Direct vendor truck drivers and shot helpers during shot loading and ensure blasting standards are followed.
• Comply with all Federal and State safety regulations for blasting operations and inventory.
• Work with management and vendors to ensure correct quantity of blasting agents per shot design.
• Maintain required blasting licenses/certifications.
• Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders and foster collaboration.
• Make timely decisions based on data, risks, and organizational goals.
