Job description

Bus Driver (Part-Time)

Job Description: To safely transport students to events during the school day and after school hours. Job is flexible on days and times. Drivers are under the supervision of the school’s Transportation Director.

Requirements:

1. Obtain an Indiana CDL Class B. You will need to take 4 written tests at the local BMV, including:

• general knowledge,
• passenger transport (P endorsement),
• air brake, and
• school bus (S endorsement).

This allows you to receive your CDL permit, valid for 6 months.

Pass a DOT physical exam, which can be completed at Parkview Occupational Health locations. Forms can be obtained from the Transportation Office to pre-fill and take with you. This is required prior to receiving your CDL permit/license. Once completed, a copy must be on file at the Transportation Office and faxed to the State. The exam is generally valid for 2 years.

After passing the written tests, you can take the CDL skills tests, which include:

• Pre-trip inspection: Demonstrate knowledge of bus safety by inspecting the bus and explaining your findings.
• Basic vehicle control: Control the bus in a defined area, including moving forward, backward, and turning.
• On-road test: Safely drive the bus in various traffic situations.

Once the skills test is passed, take your CDL permit and proof of passing to the BMV to obtain your official CDL license. DOT physical paperwork must be in hand.

Complete a 3-day Indiana Department of Education school bus safety class to receive your “blue card”.

Complete 8 hours of observed bus driving and 4 hours of bus observation. Submit these hours to the Transportation Office for the “yellow card”.

Pass a DOT drug screen and enter the FMCSA’s Clearinghouse database. Authorization is obtained at the Transportation Office.

Note: All documents must be on file for ISP audits.
