Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking a Birth Registrar to register hospital births and file required documentation in compliance with Texas regulations. The role ensures accuracy and timely processing of birth records and interacts with parents, physicians, and staff with a strong emphasis on customer service.

The position requires an Associate’s degree or equivalent experience, at least one year in birth registration or health information, and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in health information management or related field required or additional two years of experience (in lieu of degree)
• One year of experience in birth registration, health information management, or general office with emphasis on customer service
• BRC - State of Texas Birth Registrar, State Certified (TxDSHS); AOP - Certified Acknowledgement of Paternity; TxEVER system access within 4 months

Responsibilities

• Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic team focused work unit.
• Provides assistance to parent(s) to complete the birth certificate worksheet.
• Applies patience and diplomacy to sensitive situations, such as conflict regarding parental responsibility.
• Supports birth registration process while complying with patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
• Collects birth certificate data, enters worksheet data into state database, and prints out birth facts; proofreads for errors before presenting to parents.
• Provides printed social security receipt and issues a signed certification of birth facts for insurance purposes.
• Serves as administrator for the Texas birth registry information system for the assigned facility.
