Job summary

Northfield Hospital + Clinics is seeking a Patient Care Technician — Birth Center to support direct patient care and clerical duties across pediatric to geriatric populations. The role emphasizes patient-centered care, timely observations, and coordination with the nursing team.

The position includes hands-on clinical tasks, admissions/discharges support, and documentation, with a focus on safety and compassionate communication.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18 years.
• Registered in good standing with Minnesota Department of Health Nursing Assistant Registry (NAR).
• Current American Heart Association BLS Certification for Health Care Providers within 6 months of hire.
• Current Crisis Prevention Certification (CPI) within six months of hire.
• Workplace Violence education in New Employee Orientation and annually thereafter.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written English.
• Prior nursing assistant or HUC experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides Patient Centered Care.
• Makes observations and reports to RN; notes changes in condition.
• Performs personal care and interventions per unit policy; includes baths, feeding, mobility, and repositioning.
• Assists with admissions, discharges, transfers.
• Documents daily activities and care provided; assists with meals and hydration.
• Communicates compassionately with patients and families.
• Responds promptly to calls and alarms.
• Maintains a clean, safe patient environment and safe equipment use.
• Supports unit operations and scheduling tasks as needed.
