Job summary

TekWissen is seeking a Lab Equipment Maintenance Specialist in Philadelphia to oversee upkeep of fixed lab equipment, calibrations, and cold storage monitoring within a biotech setting.

Qualifications include a BS/AS in Life Sciences or Facilities Management, 1 year pharma/biotech experience, and 2+ years in maintenance programs for an R&D facility. Strong teamwork and communication are essential for success on-site.

Qualifications

• A.S. or B.S. in Life Sciences or Facilities Management with management/technical emphasis.
• Minimum 1 year of pharmaceutical, life sciences, or biotech experience in an academic or industry setting.
• Minimum 2 years of experience implementing maintenance and repair programs in an R&D facility.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a cross-functional team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to solve problems while anticipating downstream impacts.
• Highly organized with attention to detail and clarity.

Responsibilities

• Maintain equipment inventory and ensure information is accurate and updated.
• Regularly evaluate fixed lab equipment (fume hoods, exhaust fans, biosafety cabinet) for proper function.
• Manage vendor service contracts to ensure preventative maintenance visits are on schedule.
• Coordinate timelines across laboratories for certifications and calibrations.
• Assist in coordinating equipment repair visits between service providers and the lab team.
• Review cold storage monitoring software to minimize freezer risk.
• Escalate issues and troubleshoot as needed.
• Participate in emergency planning/management (power outages, infrastructure projects).
• Collaborate with technicians, users, IT and leadership to meet equipment and operational needs.
• Chaperone external technicians and ensure adherence to company policies on site.
• Oversee delivery logistics for packages, gas deliveries, or equipment installation.
• Support procurement of laboratory consumables and supplies as needed.
• Troubleshoot general laboratory operation issues as they arise.
• Develop and maintain procedures for compliant lab operations.
• Coordinate with lab safety officer to manage safety systems/compliance and PPE.
• Provide miscellaneous lab maintenance tasks as needed (stocking, eye wash/shower flushing, waste removal).
