Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA, seeks an Academic Graduate Appointee to advance computational analytics, reproducible workflows, and interactive dashboards for biosurveillance and related public health applications.

You will work under supervision to develop data pipelines, analyze diverse biological datasets, and communicate results to team members. This one-year position may extend up to two years, with on-site requirements in a fast-paced interdisciplinary setting.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain DOE Q-level clearance.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field.
• Experience with Python, R, Bash or similar for scientific computing.
• Experience or coursework with biological, genomic, metagenomic, epidemiological or environmental data.
• Familiarity with data visualization, dashboards, or reporting tools.
• Familiarity with Linux-based computing environments and command-line tools.
• Ability to follow established computational workflows and document methods.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop computational analytics and interactive dashboards for biosurveillance and environmental metagenomics.
• Build and maintain reproducible bioinformatics and data processing workflows.
• Analyze structured and unstructured biological data to identify trends and assess data quality.
• Process and visualize metagenomic sequencing data (taxonomic, functional, QC analyses).
• Apply HPC resources to run established bioinformatics and ML workloads.
• Evaluate approved tools and assist with code development and reporting.
