Qualifications

Job description

Full-time, 40 hours/week

Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Hybrid remote (requires 6-12 days onsite/month)

Summary

The Biostatistician at Akron Children's will apply statistical methods to biological, medical, or health-related research to help interpret complex data and draw meaningful conclusions. The ideal candidate will work closely with researchers, public health experts, and clinical teams to design studies, analyze data, and provide insights that inform decision‑making in areas like public health, clinical trials, or epidemiology.

Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with researchers to design and plan statistical analyses for studies, including determining the most appropriate methods and tools.
  2. Perform statistical analysis on complex biological, medical, or epidemiological data using a variety of statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, SPSS, STATA).
  3. Interpret and communicate statistical results to non-statistical audiences, including researchers, healthcare providers, and policy makers.
  4. Develop and maintain statistical models, including predictive and risk models.
  5. Provide statistical support for the design of clinical trials, observational studies, and other research initiatives.
  6. Conduct power analysis, sample size calculations, and ensure the proper handling of missing data.
  7. Write statistical analysis plans, reports, and publications, including providing input for grant proposals and scientific papers.
  8. Assist with the validation and quality control of data, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
  9. Stay current with advancements in statistical methods, software, and trends in biostatistics.
  10. Contribute to the training and mentoring of junior staff or collaborators in statistical techniques and methodologies.
Technical Expertise
  1. Experience with machine learning techniques and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, ggplot2).
  2. Familiarity with data management systems and large datasets, especially in the healthcare or pharmaceutical sectors.
  3. Knowledge of regulatory guidelines (e.g., FDA, EMA) for clinical trials and observational studies.
  4. Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and data analysis skills.
  5. Ability to effectively communicate complex statistical concepts and results to non-statistical audiences.
  6. Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in data analysis.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in scientific writing.
Education and Experience
  1. Master's or Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or a related field.
  2. Strong background in statistical theory and applied biostatistics, including regression analysis, survival analysis, and multivariate techniques.
  3. Proficiency in statistical software packages such as R, SAS, STATA, or SPSS.
  4. Experience with clinical trial data analysis, public health research, or epidemiological studies is preferred.
