Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking an Institutional Biosafety Program Manager to provide strategic leadership for LLNL’s biosafety program supporting biological research and related activities. You will work with ESH leadership, investigators, committees, and DOE to ensure safe, compliant operations.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in biology, microbiology, molecular biology, virology, immunology, or related life sciences.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain DOE Q clearance.
• Experience leading institutional biosafety programs in research or government settings.
• Expert knowledge of biosafety regulations and guidelines (BMBL, NIH Guidelines, OSHA, DOE).
• Experience with biosafety committees (IBC/IRE/IACUC or similar).
• Strong program management, policy development, and training experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead LLNL's institutional biosafety program, including policies, procedures, and documentation.
• Provide expert guidance on biosafety, biosecurity, and containment concepts for biological research.
• Develop strategies, objectives, and resources aligned with Laboratory mission needs.
• Lead risk assessments and support development of Biological Use Authorizations.
• Oversee biosafety reviews across BSL-1 to BSL-3 and ABSL containment.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and DOE requirements.
• Serve as Institutional Biosafety Officer and voting member of biosafety committees.
• Engage with DOE, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders.
