Job summary

POET is seeking a Plant Engineer to partner with management at bioprocessing facilities to maintain operations and drive continuous improvement. This on-site role is based in Chancellor, SD, and involves leading capital projects, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration with engineers and corporate teams.

You will develop process improvements, manage changes, and support safety and regulatory compliance while maintaining high run-time and efficiency across the POET footprint.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree or greater in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering; other engineering degrees considered.
• Experience in operating processing plant environments such as grain or chemical processing is beneficial.
• Prior leadership and project management experience is valued.
• Experience with DCS control and DCS historian systems.
• Knowledge of OSHA/EPA regulations is a bonus.
• Strong organizational, time management and communication skills.
• Ability to understand technical detail and daily operation of a bioprocessing facility.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new programs.

Responsibilities

• Develop, present, and manage capital projects and economic justifications for site leadership.
• Identify opportunities for plant improvements and drive continuous improvement and cost-savings projects.
• Analyze process data and create action plans; identify optimization needs.
• Assist with facility shutdown planning and execution.
• Work with leadership to review operational challenges and provide solutions.
• Develop SME knowledge in unit operations and provide process expertise.
• Support Management of Change and Process Safety Documentation.
• Contribute to annual strategic plans and site initiatives.
• Develop and utilize historical data reports.
• Write and coordinate procedures and communicate with the team.
• Foster cross-department communication and a culture of safety and environmental compliance.
• Maintain team environment and promote POET in the community.
• Be adaptable to support other roles as needed.
