Placements24 is sourcing a Junior Process Engineer intern for a leading biotechnology firm in Paarl, Western Cape. You will gain hands-on experience in bioprocess design, fermentation, and downstream processing within a cutting-edge industrial setting.

You will work under experienced engineers, contribute to process optimization, and develop practical skills in bioprocess control, while pursuing a relevant degree in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a B.Eng. or B.Sc. in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering.
• Strong academic record with focus on bioprocess engineering, fermentation, or related fields.
• Basic understanding of chemical engineering principles.
• Familiarity with laboratory practices and safety procedures.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving aptitude.

Responsabilités

• Assist in designing and developing bioprocesses, including fermentation and downstream purification.
• Support pilot plant operations and data collection for process optimization.
• Monitor and analyze process performance data under supervision of senior engineers.
• Help troubleshoot operational issues within bioprocessing units.
• Contribute to preparation of process documentation such as P&IDs and SOPs.
• Participate in safety reviews and ensure adherence to lab and plant safety protocols.
• Assist in scale-up of bioprocesses from lab to pilot scale.
• Conduct literature reviews on new bioprocessing technologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including lab technicians and production staff.
• Gain exposure to process control systems and instrumentation.
