The Opportunity
We are seeking a Bioprocess Engineerto join the Pilot Scale Development team supporting the development and manufacturing of recombinant proteins at pilot scale. This role will focus on development laboratory runs, data aggregation and modeling, and end-to-end fed-batch platform development using both stainless-steel and single-use equipment at 50–1000L scale.
The successful candidate will play an important role in achieving CMC milestones and supporting pilot-scale manufacturing readiness, technology transfer, equipment commissioning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate stainless-steel and single-use bioprocessing equipment from cell thaw through downstream (DS) fill, supporting pilot-scale development activities.
- Plan, execute, document, and analyze laboratory experiments in support of CMC milestones and pilot-scale development goals.
- Aggregate and analyze experimental data and utilize modeling tools to support process understanding, predictions, and optimization.
- Support end-to-end fed-batch platform development at the 50–1000L scale, including process development and manufacturing readiness activities.
- Assist with technology transfers to manufacturing facilities, ensuring processes, documentation, and equipment requirements are effectively communicated.
- Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, commission, and support upgrades of laboratory and pilot-scale equipment.
- Monitor laboratory productivity and contribute to improvements in laboratory workflows, processes, and operational efficiency.
- Participate in continuous improvement and innovation projects related to pilot-scale development and bioprocessing operations.
- Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and ensure experiments and equipment activities are performed in accordance with established procedures and quality expectations.
Qualifications
- 1+ year of laboratory or biotechnology industry experience preferred.
- Solid laboratory background with hands‑on experience in a biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, or related laboratory environment.
- Previous experience with sterile technique and biologics development is preferred.
- Experience working with bioprocessing equipment, recombinant proteins, fed-batch processes, or pilot-scale operations is highly desirable.
- Strong laboratory, computer, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to accurately document and analyze experimental results.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and cross‑functional teams.
- Flexible, adaptable, and capable of learning new processes, equipment, and technologies quickly.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, hands‑on laboratory environment.
- Ability to work onsite 5 days per week in North Carolina Research Triangle Park and provide occasional weekend support when needed.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related scientific/engineering field.
