Job summary

Florida International University in Miami is seeking an instructor to deliver biometrics and forensic science training. You will develop lesson plans, design realistic training scenarios, and evaluate student performance in classroom and hands-on settings.

Job Summary

Provides training mission activities by delivering biometrics and forensics instruction in a manner that ensures effective understanding and application of skills taught. Develops, reviews, and refines lesson plans in accordance with the program. Evaluates and assess student baseline understanding of tasks. Delivers instruction in classroom and scenario settings. Performs ongoing evaluation of student knowledge and skills and provide verbal feedback as well as written evaluations.

• Reviews, refines, updates if necessary, and comment on lesson plans.
• Writes personal lesson outlines in support of existing Programs of Instruction and lesson plans.
• Designs and develops training materials in support of lesson plans, POI guidelines.
• Develops realistic training scenarios to replicate real-world operations.
• Plans, develops, and implements training courses in support of POI.
• Performs transport, setup, tear-down, and reset of training equipment.
• Develops and implements evaluation tools to assess participant learning.
• Conducts performance assessments and provides constructive feedback for improvement to courses and training materials for enhanced learning outcomes.
• Instructs on evaluating surfaces and items of evidentiary value to determine optimal collection methods for latent fingerprints, palm prints, and hand knife-edge prints using both tactical field techniques and laboratory procedures.
• Teaches enhancement, lifting, developing, and preservation of friction ridge detail using lights, gels, powders, and other approved methods.
• Provides instruction in photographing fingerprints, biometric data, and forensic evidence with proper labeling, scaling, and use of various digital cameras and lenses.
• Trains on detecting, collecting, and preserving DNA from surfaces and individuals.
• Teaches forensic photography of structures, vehicles, individuals, and evidence.
• Instructs on collecting fingerprints from live and deceased individuals, including use of postmortem spoons/cards and FBI 10-print cards.
• Guides participants in processing, submitting, and presenting biometric and forensic results verbally, in writing, and through DOJ submission systems.
• Trains in live capture/scan of fingerprints with tactical biometric devices, including mass-enrollment capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Positions under National Forensic Science Technology Center will require Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and 5 years of experience in related field; OR nine (9) years of relevant training and/or military experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and/or military experience.

Desired Qualifications

• International Association for Identifiers (IAI) certification.
• Experience performing finger print and DNA collection and processing, and crime scene photography.
