Job summary

The Biomedical Research Education Office (BREO) within the University of Utah Health Sciences Research Office seeks a Program Specialist with an interest in graduate education, program building, and engagement with local and national life science industry partners.

This position focuses on career discernment and professional development for trainees, developing programs and resources to complement students’ ongoing scientific training.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
• This is a Career‑Level position in the General Professional track.
• This is an Advanced‑Level position in the General Professional track.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a robust database of local and national internship and co‑op training opportunities specific to graduate and postdoctoral trainees in the biomedical sciences.
• In collaboration with institutional partners develop standard operating procedures for all graduate students to engage in experiential education opportunities. Manage logistical and/or policy issues.
• Build graduate student specific programming to support the University of Utah Durable Skills Framework.
• Facilitate the creation and management of micro‑credential courses that support trainee technical skill development, career discernment, and professional development.
• Organize and manage large scale events including career/internship fairs, “Day in the Life” Seminars, internship poster sessions.
• Support BREO Director in the development of new certificate and/or graduate degree programs.
• Cross‑train within BREO to understand and support PhD program management, training grants, and fellowships.
