Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX is seeking a Medical Research Technician II to support a dynamic research lab. The role involves maintaining lab supplies, assisting the PI with budgeting, training staff, managing a breeding colony of genetically altered mice, and performing complex experiments including Western blot analyses and PCR.

Applicants should have a biology-related degree and experience with molecular biology techniques, animal handling, and data recording.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology, animal science, engineering, or related fields (preferred).
• Experience with conducting research in a biological field.
• Experience with molecular biology tools and techniques (PCR, Western blot, etc.).
• Experience handling small animals (mice).
• Experience with purchasing systems to order equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities

• Maintain inventories of commonly used supplies.
• Assist PI with budgeting and spending monitoring.
• Train new students and staff in scientific procedures and protocol preparation.
• Manage breeding colony of genetically altered mice; genotyping and records.
• Conduct daily animal inventory; perform experiments (Western blots, PCR, cell culture).
• Record experiments and data in notebooks with detailed methodology and results.
• Supervise lab support activities and assist student assistants when needed.
