Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Research Specialist II to support Dr. Sungjin Ko’s laboratory. You will conduct routine experiments, assist with transgenic mouse colony maintenance, histology, and molecular biology work under PI supervision.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s degree in a life science and hands-on experience with laboratory techniques such as PCR, Western blotting, cell culture, and immunostaining. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related field.
• One year of work experience in a related research area preferred.
• Experience with animal husbandry and mouse colony management is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design and plan routine experiments and optimize daily protocols.
• Maintain accurate and timely experimental records.
• Share responsibility for mouse husbandry and transgenic colony management.
• Perform histology, immunostaining, and imaging procedures.
• Conduct basic molecular biology experiments (DNA isolation, genotyping, qPCR, western blot).
• Work under supervision of the PI with opportunities for independent data collection.
