Job summary

Harvard University seeks an experienced Research Infrastructure System Administrator to support the RTI team. You will build, configure, and maintain platforms, applications, and databases enabling secure research environments and HPC access.

You will develop APIs and researcher portals, automate with DevOps practices, and collaborate across researchers and IT teams. The role emphasizes operational support, independent problem-solving, and contributing to documentation and best practices.

Qualifications

• Experience administering Linux-based systems in a research/academic setting.
• Experience with research platforms (Globus, ELNs, Open OnDemand).
• Experience managing relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and web-hosted environments.
• Proficiency with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Podman).
• Scripting ability in Python or Bash.

Responsibilities

• Configure, maintain, and support research applications and platforms (e.g., Omero, Globus, Redcap, Starfish, ELNs).
• Administer and maintain research databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and web-hosted systems.
• Develop and support APIs, license servers, and researcher portals for data access.
• Support user access platforms including Open OnDemand and HPC account workflows.
• Implement monitoring/alerting to ensure health of RTI platforms.
• Develop and deploy services using DevOps tools like containers and orchestration.
