Job summary

The University of Kansas Medical Center seeks a Research Assistant in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine to support biomedical projects by performing lab experiments, assisting with animal and human subject research, and contributing to data analysis and clinical communication.

Responsibilities include maintaining training records, assisting with tissue culture and genotyping, collecting human tissue with informed consent, and helping prepare manuscripts and grant

Qualifications

• Four years of biology/biochemistry research experience required; relevant education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology/biochemistry with minimum one year of animal research experience.
• Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Complete and maintain training records including animal user training and human subjects training.
• Perform general lab experiments: tissue/cell culture, sectioning, staining, imaging, Western blotting, DNA/RNA isolation, RT-PCR, qPCR, and related tasks.
• Assist with transgenic animal genotyping, animal euthanasia, and tissue collection; support surgical and non-surgical procedures as needed.
• Assist with human tissue collection, obtain informed consent, and collect samples as directed by clinicians and approved protocols.
• Support data analysis and lab management using relevant software; participate in research presentations; assist with manuscript and grant preparation.
