Job summary

SierTeK Ltd. seeks a Research Laboratory Associate to support an opportunity at University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB).

The role involves laboratory, veterinary, and research support for studies using large and small animal models, with emphasis on regulatory compliance and data collection. Responsibilities include protocol development, procedural support, IACUC documentation, and collaboration with veterinarians and investigators to advance research projects.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in biology or related life science field.
• Minimum 3 years of research laboratory experience with independent study management.
• Minimum 2 years with large animal research models (swine and/or sheep).
• Experience: anesthesia, catheter placement, IV injections, arterial lines, surgical assistance, tissue harvesting, medication dosing, animal care.
• Experience collaborating with veterinarians and investigators on experiments.
• Knowledge of IACUC regulations and animal welfare requirements.
• Strong organizational, communication, and technical writing skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day laboratory operations and support multiple concurrent projects.
• Assist with development of animal research protocols and study procedures.
• Support submission of IACUC protocols and regulatory documentation.
• Assist program managers with cost proposals, equipment planning, and quarterly reports.
• Collect, organize, analyze, and document data; contribute to reports, manuscripts, and grants.
• Provide veterinary care for research animals and health monitoring.
• Perform routine pre- and post-operative animal care.
• Conduct standardized lab testing and document findings.
• Assist with surgical procedures and operation of specialized equipment.
• Maintain inventories and ensure regulatory compliance.
