Job summary

University of Minnesota seeks a master’s level data scientist to join a multidisciplinary team working on health data science, AI, and biomedical informatics. The role involves designing and evaluating AI solutions for healthcare data, with a focus on reproducible research and collaborative translation of methods.

The position is a professional academic appointment with a 100% time commitment, within the NLP/IE Program and CHS division.

Qualifications

• B.A./B.S. in Biomedical/Health Informatics, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or related quantitative discipline plus at least five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least nine years.
• Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, software engineering principles, and computational methods.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or Java; experience with SQL and familiarity with C/C++ or other programming languages. Demonstrate programming proficiency through prior projects or sample code.
• Understanding of healthcare data, biomedical data, and common health AI and informatics applications.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and evaluate AI, ML, NLP, generative AI, and data science methods for healthcare and biomedical research projects.
• Conduct computational experiments using EHR data, clinical text, and other biomedical datasets.
• Develop reproducible research pipelines, software tools, and AI systems to support research studies and translation of research methods into usable solutions.
