  • Provides support tasks within Clinical Engineering and interfaces with manufacturers on projects.
  • Keeps knowledge up to date with advances in electronics and equipment changes.
  • Participates in after-hours emergency service (On Call) as required.
  • Occasionally works beyond the defined job description.

The Biomedical Equipment Technician II is an experienced technical professional responsible for independently inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, and supporting a broad range of medical equipment of routine to moderate complexity across Beth Israel Lahey Health. The BMET II applies established technical expertise and sound judgment to ensure medical equipment remains safe, reliable, and compliant with manufacturer recommendations, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards. The BMET II supports equipment lifecycle activities, collaborates with clinical users, manufacturers, vendors, and internal stakeholders, and contributes to the effective delivery of Biomedical Services through high‑quality technical support, documentation, and customer service. The position also provides informal guidance to less experienced technicians and supports operational and quality improvement initiatives within assigned areas.

Job Description: Essential Responsibilities:

  • 1. Diagnoses, tests, troubleshoots to component level, repair, and calibrate to manufacturer's specifications all types of electronic and electro‑mechanical instrumentation. Works with and understands the operation of pertinent test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital voltmeters, etc.
  • 2. Utilizes schematics, technical drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals. Conducts periodic and routine preventive maintenance inspections on any and all Direct and Indirect Patient-Care-Related electronic instrumentation / systems.
  • 3. Prepares and maintains records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance using both 'paper' and 'computer' systems. Assists in the installation of capital equipment purchases of Direct Patient-Care-Related electronic instrumentation / systems.
  • 4. Performs additional support tasks within the Department of Clinical Engineering (e.g. order parts, maintain service manuals, catalogs, mandatory training program, etc.). Interfaces (as required) with manufacturers on clinical and technical projects and problems.
  • 5. Maintains knowledge of advances in the electronics field and equipment changes within the hospital.
  • 6. Participation in the after-hours emergency service coverage (On Call) as required.
  • 7. Works outside of the parameters of the job description on occasion.

Required Qualifications:

  • 1. High School diploma or GED required.
  • 2. 3-5 years related work experience required.
  • 3. 2 years experience in the general field of electronics.
  • 4. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

  • 1. Basic knowledge of mechanics, optics, physiology, and medical terminology.

  • 7. Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
  • 8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Physical Nature of the Job: Very Heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force continually. Employee is physically active in all elements of the job.

Pay Range: $38.00 - $50.00 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
