RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Biomed Technician to inspect, maintain, and repair medical equipment, ensuring safety and compliance. You will use electronic test equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and address service requests to support patient care across Central Jersey.

The role requires an AAS in Biomedical Engineering or related field with 0–3 years of hands-on experience and the ability to learn electrical concepts. On-call responsibilities and travel are part of the position.

As a Biomed Technician, a typical day might include the following:

• Performing preventive maintenance inspections on medical equipment appropriate to your level of training and experience.
• Prioritizing inspections of higher-risk equipment while completing assigned work within established timeframes.
• Responding to service requests and troubleshooting and repairing medical equipment within your level of proficiency.
• Using appropriate electronic test equipment and demonstrating sound judgment when determining whether component- or circuit-board-level repairs are appropriate.
• Identifying unsafe equipment or conditions and promptly notifying the appropriate management team members.
• Working with senior technical staff to create and enter preventive maintenance procedures based on manufacturer guidelines.
• Maintaining adequate parts and supplies when applicable to help minimize equipment downtime.
• Accurately documenting service requests, inspections, and repairs in the biomedical equipment database.
• Inspecting new medical devices and equipment for safety, compliance with applicable codes and standards, and proper function.
• Gathering and maintaining required device information, service manuals, and operator manuals for equipment servicing.
• Assisting with medical equipment recalls and device alerts from manufacturers and/or the FDA.
• Supporting department and organizational regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and quality goals.
• Reporting violations or conditions that could place patients, staff, the department, or facility at risk.
• Maintaining a strong understanding of shop safety and the proper use of electronic test equipment.
• Providing technical assistance to clinical users, including troubleshooting equipment issues by phone when appropriate to help minimize downtime and maintain continuity of patient care.
• Participating in the Biomedical Engineering emergency on-call program and responding to urgent equipment needs when required.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a minimum Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or equivalent work/military experience in Biomedical Engineering. You must possess 0-3 years of hands-on experience in biomedical engineering or a related technical field and the ability to learn and apply basic electrical, electronic, and electromechanical concepts. Preferred qualifications includeknowledge of electromechanical components, medical equipment manufacturer certification and eligibility for AAMI/ICC certification.

This is a Full-Time Day, mobile position, scheduled Monday through Friday, that requires travel through Central Jersey. Participation in the emergency on-call program is also required. When on call, you must be able to respond by telephone within 15 minutes and report to the facility within a maximum of one hour when an on-site response is required.
