Job summary

Wellstar Health System is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician II (BMET2) to provide clinical equipment services under management. Responsibilities include calibrating, repairing, and troubleshooting medical devices, reading schematics, and coordinating with vendors and IT teams to support interoperability with EPIC and other systems.

The role requires at least 3 years of hospital experience with medical devices, knowledge of electronic circuitry, and the ability to work with clinical staff

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting medical devices in a hospital environment.
  • Experience with electronic digital circuitry and electro‑mechanical devices.
  • Ability to interpret building drawings and systems information.
  • Experience presenting to clinical staff and coordinating with departments.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, and repair biomedical equipment.
  • Perform safety acceptance testing on new and serviced equipment.
  • Document all activity in the equipment-management system in a timely fashion.
  • Update/install medical equipment with security considerations and design solutions.
  • Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering, Desktop Support, and IT for networked devices.
  • Serve as a customer-relations representative for the department and report issues to management.
  • Maintain knowledge of current regulations for medical equipment and technologies.

Job Summary

The Biomedical Equipment Technician II (BMET2) provides clinical equipment services under the supervision of management. Duties include but are not limited to: perform calibrations and repairs on equipment as assigned; demonstrate knowledge of safe and approved troubleshooting techniques on medical devices; read schematics and service manuals, consult with vendors and service representatives to assist in troubleshooting; utilize test equipment and complete repairs in a time‑ and cost‑effective manner with patient safety as the primary focus; document work performed and any significant performance data accurately and in a timely manner. Operates as part of a team of engineers responsible for providing in‑depth technical knowledge required to implement, manage, upgrade and support many applications and interoperability into EPIC and other repositories.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
  • Respond to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, and perform corrective and preventative maintenance on biomedical equipment requiring moderate intervention.
  • Perform safety acceptance testing on new medical equipment and on hospital equipment returned after service.
  • Document all repair, maintenance, installation, and other activity in a timely fashion using the department’s equipment‑management software and other mechanisms as needed.
  • Update/Install medical equipment to include security protocols and work with customers to provide design solutions maintaining technical and application standards.
  • Work closely with all engineers across all teams including Biomedical Engineering, Desktop Support, Systems and Network Engineering.
  • Coordinate with WellStar IT in support of planning, installation and servicing networked medical devices and systems.
  • Serve as a customer‑relations representative for the department, correcting service deficiencies within the position’s scope of responsibility and relaying other issues to the Program Manager.
  • Have working knowledge of and appropriate interaction with other support departments necessary for performing the Biomedical Department function.
  • Maintain knowledge of current regulations and compliance standards for medical equipment and technology developments.
  • Contribute to System/Facility/Department Quality & Performance Improvement efforts.
  • Perform delegated functions of the Biomedical Engineering Department as delineated in the Medical Equipment Management Program Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Ensure proper care and accountability of department, facility and peer tools and exercise judicious use of department parts, supplies and other resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education
  • High School Diploma General
  • Associates Electrical Engineering‑Preferred or Associates Biomedical Engineering‑Preferred or Associates Mechanical Engineering‑Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)
  • All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • GADL – Georgia Driver’s License or VSDL – Valid State Driver’s License
Additional License(s) And Certification(s)

CCNA Certification Upon Hire Preferred or PMP Certification Upon Hire Preferred or Equivalent Certification Upon Hire Preferred.

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 3 years of experience in supporting medical devices and systems in a hospital environment. Minimum 3 years knowledge of electronic digital circuitry and understanding of electronic and electro‑mechanical devices.

Required Minimum Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Capable of interpreting building architectural and systems drawings and information.
  • Able to compose and deliver presentations regarding medical devices and systems to clinical staff.
  • Working knowledge of Security Protocols.
