Broward College seeks a part-time Biological Science Lab Assistant to support the setup, operation, and teardown of biology and related labs. The role involves preparing materials, handling living specimens, and ensuring safety compliance under supervision.

Ideal candidates have at least an Associate's degree and 3+ years in a science lab, with training in hazardous materials. The position emphasizes lab maintenance, inventory, and collaboration with faculty.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Three or more years of functional experience in a science laboratory setting with hazardous material training.
• Ability to follow established safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation of labs across disciplines such as anatomy, biology, zoology, botany, and microbiology.
• Prepare chemical solutions and media, calculate concentrations, measure, weigh, and use balances and autoclaves.
• Return lab to its pre-lab condition by cleaning, sanitizing, and making minor repairs.
• Maintain samples of living organisms using aseptic techniques.
• Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Dispose of waste materials per safety and regulatory protocols.
• Assist faculty with lab activities.
• Calibrate and test equipment before class starts.
