Job summary

Central Alabama Community College seeks an Instructor to plan, organize, and instruct courses across multiple sites including Alexander City, Childersburg, Talladega, Prattville, or via distance learning. The assignment will include day, evening, or weekend schedules to meet student demand.

Salary is commensurate with education and teaching experience (9 months: $48,454–$75,617). An additional summer contract may be available ($14,959–$23,388) and a 12‑month range of $63,413–$99,005 may apply.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (18 graduate semester or 27 graduate quarter hours in teaching discipline area is required).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Competency in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom and willingness to develop and teach web-based courses is required.
  • Proficiency in English language required.
  • Prior teaching experience in assigned discipline area is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and instruct courses.
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi, course competencies, assessments, and outlines.
  • Plans, organizes, and instructs all levels of courses.
  • Collaborates with Dean of Academic Programs, Division Chair and faculty to develop, evaluate, and review curriculum.
  • Recommends textbooks and other instructional materials including classroom and laboratory equipment to Division Chair.
  • Collaborates with Academics and Student Support Divisions to promote student success and increase student program completion.
  • Monitors and analyzes student and program outcome data to ensure continuous improvement in achievement and maintenance of student success rates.
  • Provides student advising.
  • Develops or assists with development of instructional semester schedule.
  • Develops or assists with development of distance learning courses and/or Web based courses.
  • Maintains appropriate office hours.
  • Serves on divisional and institutional committees.
  • Participates in professional growth activities.

Job description

The primary responsibility of an Instructor is planning, organization, and instruction of courses. Instructors will be assigned to teach at varied times and locations based on student demand; day, evening, or weekend in Alexander City, Childersburg, Talladega, Prattville, or at other sites in the traditional classroom or via distance learning.

SALARY: Commensurate with education and teaching experience according to Salary ScheduleD1-1A ($48,454 - $75,617) - 9 months. An additional summer contract may be available dependent upon enrollment ($14,959 - $23,388) - 3 months; ($63,413 - $99,005) - 12 months.

  1. Complies with all policies and guidelines as specified by the Alabama Community College System, Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, and Central Alabama Community College and applicable federal guidelines.
  2. Develops and maintains course syllabi, course competencies, assessments, andoutlines.
  3. Plans, organizes, and instructs all levels ofcourses.
  4. Works with Dean of Academic Programs, Division Chair and faculty to develop, evaluate, and review curriculum.
  5. Recommends textbooks and other instructional materials including classroom andlaboratory equipment to DivisionChair.
  6. Collaborates with Academics and Student Support Divisions to promote student success and increase student programcompletion.

  8. Tracks and records student daily attendance asrequired.
  9. Provides studentadvising.
  10. Collaborates with the office of Student Services regarding class roster to ensure accuratestudent registrationreporting.
  11. Develops or assists with development of instructional semesterschedule.
  12. Develops or assists with development of distance learning courses and/or Web basedcourses.
  13. Maintains appropriate office hours.
  14. Serves on divisional and institutionalcommittees.
  15. Participates in professional growthactivities.
  16. Prepares and submits departmental budgets and requisitions for allpurchases.
  17. Possesses the ability to travel to all campuses, meetings, and educationalofferings.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned that relate to the position.
