An exciting opportunity is available to work with Ducks Unlimited (DU), the world leader in wetlands conservation. We are seeking a mid-level biologist to join our team, delivering DU’s growing wetland mitigation program in the Great Plains Region. The mitigation team is on the forefront of DU’s exciting new ecosystem services emphasis. The new biologist will have the ability to help develop and influence innovative projects and programs, including wetland mitigation and beyond (streams, species, water quality, etc.).
DU has built successful wetland mitigation banking and In-Lieu Fee programs across many states. Although our mitigation team can deliver fee-for-service projects, we have a significantly different outlook and work environment than traditional consulting firms. We will give you the direction and guidance needed to succeed, but also the ability and independence for creativity in achieving results. You will have the ability to see projects through from beginning to end, taking great satisfaction in walking the quality habitat you developed through lengthy planning and implementation efforts. The current need is based out DU’s Great Plains Regional Office (GPRO) in Bismarck, ND with work focused in ND, SD, and MT. Working at our Bismarck regional headquarters will allow full immersion into DU culture and developing professional relationships to build a strong career with DU. We are seeking a mid-level biologist with 2-10 years of relevant experience. Starting salary of $55,000-$80,000, depending on experience.
Duties/Responsibilities:
The biologist position will need to perform a wide array of duties. The position will require infrequent overnight travel (estimated 15-25 days per year). An overview of potential duties is provided below:
Manage existing wetland mitigation sites; habitat management; wetland delineation; perform annual post restoration monitoring/reporting; private landowner and lease coordination; develop grazing plans; contractor and consultant management; data entry and database management in relation to GIS; identify potential wetland restoration projects; investigate restoration feasibility; restoration plan development, permitting; wetland mitigation plans, cross team coordination (engineering); environmental market research; partner networking and coordination; participating in trainings and conferences; public presentations; and “other duties as assigned”.
The position will report to the Manager of Conservation Programs while assisting and supporting all obligations of delivering the compensatory mitigation program.

Depending on the successful applicant’s level of experience and expertise, the position could take on additional responsibilities such as leading various duties mentioned above and independently managing workload between multiple mitigation projects.
Benefits/Pay:Starting salary of $55,000-$80,000will be based on experience and education.
