Job summary

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago seeks a Biologics Laboratory Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day lab operations, shared resources, and the biorepository infrastructure for advancing rehabilitation science. You will coordinate equipment, safety, compliance, and SOPs while partnering with researchers, clinicians, trainees, and safety staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Physiology, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience required; lab tech experience preferred.
• Two years of supervisory experience preferred.
• Familiarity with molecular biology activities such as cell culture, protein purification, microscopy, sequencing, histology, husbandry, etc.
• Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and people management skills.
• Experience with qualitative and quantitative research outcomes and analysis.
• Ability to structure time to meet deadlines and adapt to changing design requirements.
• High accuracy, attention to detail, and highly organized work style.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily laboratory operations and shared resources supporting biomedical researchers in molecular, cellular, and organismal biology studies.
• Coordinate purchasing and assist in monitoring operational expenses.
• Assist in implementing regulatory requirements for lab access, procedures, and policies for staff, contractors, collaborators, and visitors.
• Develop, update, and implement SOPs and workflows in coordination with the Director and safety/regulatory personnel.
• Serve as the Biologics Lab representative to the Institutional Biosafety Committee; support IRB and IACUC protocols as needed.
• Coordinate laboratory safety training and onboarding; maintain safety training documentation.
• Coordinate procurement, installation, and service of shared lab equipment; manage vendor relationships and maintenance contracts.
• Provide technical troubleshooting for commonly used equipment and act as liaison for shared platforms (flow cytometry, microscopes, cryostats, incubators).
• Attend other duties as assigned by Director of Biologics Lab or CSO.
