Job summary

Amgen seeks a Process Development Associate Scientist in Thousand Oaks, CA to join the Pre-Pivotal Drug Product Technologies group. You will design and optimize liquid and lyophilized formulations for biologics, establishing robust fill/finish processes and supporting IND submissions.

The role emphasizes high-throughput formulation, robotics, and data-driven decision making, with opportunities to apply AI/automation to accelerate development while collaborating across functions.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Pharmaceutics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Physical Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of industrial experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology or related field.
• Experience in biophysical analysis (Light scattering, DSF, AUC, FFF) and mass spectrometry.
• Hands-on with automated liquid handling systems and robotic laboratory workflows.
• Experience implementing DoE, high-throughput experimentation, and workflow orchestration.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute formulation, stability, end-use compatibility, and fill/finish studies for early-stage programs.
• Develop and characterize liquid and lyophilized formulations for biologics and lab-scale sterile filling.
• Investigate CQAs to inform formulation and process design decisions.
• Design, develop, and execute automated high-throughput formulation screening workflows.
• Develop and implement laboratory automation solutions to improve throughput and data quality.
• Apply DoE and data analysis to explore formulation design space and support decisions.
