Job Description:

We are seeking a Biological Technician I to support biological research for the rapid detection of infectious diseases of global importance, both natural and man-made, domestically and internationally. This position supports the Biological Defense Research Directorate (BDRD) in the Molecular Diagnostics (MD) Department at Fort Detrick, Fredrick, MD.

Responsibilities:

Support research and development, reagent production, and quality management of molecular diagnostics, including real-time PCR assay production, assay development, platform testing, proficiency testing for biological threats, and laboratory and field support for biological threat agent detection.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological science field.
  • 0-3 years of practical molecular biology experience.
  • Knowledge of nucleic acid-based assay design, development, and reagent production.
  • Experience working in a BSL-2 clean laboratory.
  • At least 1 year of reagent production experience under ISO 17034/17025 or similar QMS.
  • Must be able to pass all criteria for a Secret security clearance.

An active Secret security clearance is required.
